The cartridge slip fits to the body and seals nicely. It did not come with a converter which is fine with me as I don’t use them. The ink cartridge is about the same size as the one in my Ahab, and holds a lot of ink. The feed and nib fit into the body snugly but not too tight and can easily be removed when necessary. It is shaped so that the nib fits perfectly and you can put it on without even looking. However I quickly found that this is a very good if not excellent feed. Was surprised to find that the ink feed was hard shiny molded black plastic, not metal. Took it apart and cleaned it with alcohol. My first impression is that this is a nicely made pen, looks good and feels good. Got my pen yesterday afternoon and was able to spend a couple of hours seeing how it handles. I have experienced that with every pen I have made and I expect that will be the same with this pen. I agree with Mikes comment about India ink drying out at the tip and air hole. I just can’t resist the temptation to experiment with something different. Lord, I hope I haven’t thrown away another $40 on a pen I really don’t need. I may even order the other three types of feeds to see how they perform. If the initial tests are positive, I will go thru more extensive tests and then post my findings. Once I do some preliminary tests I will let you know the results. It has a much larger diameter opening which allows for a better air return to the cartridge which allows a better flow of ink to the feed and nib.

It appears to be very much like the one used in the Noodlers Ahab. I had a pump pen a long time ago and that was a total waste of money.Īnother positive thing I noticed in the pictures was the ink cartridge. I got the one that handles the Zebra G nib with a standard ink feed. Once I saw the ink feeds and could see that some of them are almost identical to the feeds I made for the Jinhao and Ahab I couldn’t control myself and my hand hit the BUY NOW button before I came to my senses. You got me hooked! When you mentioned the metal ink feeds I just had to go look and see what MR. Too good to be true for only $40? Testing will tell.

The feeds are made of metal so, no worries about cleaning them when needed plus they are made to fit the Zebra G nibs with no feed modification! The variety of feeds is a strong selling point for me. The Ackerman pens are designed to use with India and even Acrylic inks. I don’t know if it helps, but I keep a few drops of water in the cap but not touching the point. The Platinum Preppy takes some coaxing but it still flows well after a few warmup strokes. The Pentel still writes instantly when uncapped. Just for fun I have stored both of them point down for 3 weeks now, testing them every few days. The only negative being the nibs aren’t that great and you can’t buy drawing nibs for them. So far my Pentel and Platinum $3 pens are working great with the Speedball Super Black India ink. Dipping interrupts the flow of my work and increases the chance of ink drops falling on the surface, destroying many hours of work. I’d be interested in what you see it’s possible advantages as ? I just can’t see how it will surpass a cheap Jinhoa washed out thoroughly every couple of days ( even if I have had to modify the feed slot to perfect the flow).

However I’m still not even tempted to press the “Buy now” button though because India ink will always dry out both in the feed & most certainly in the nib slit & breather hole part. In my understanding the only thing that an perfected Ackerman could offer is a really extreme line width variation using the viscosity of indian ink, maybe plus the pure embossed glossiness of it’s line. If I want to use a dip pen nib with a proper continuous supply of ink I will shove it in a cheap Jinhoa. You’d certainly imagine he’d be getting close by now – “12th incarnation”įor my ownpurposes the various fountain pen carbon inks are both permanent & waterproof. I’ll waste your time by saying I don’t know ! Interested to hear about it though
